Dan Rosas

Shop Estimator

I received a degree in Industrial Design from the University of Wisconsin. I really enjoyed the prototyping aspect of product development and working in the shop. I moved to Portland in 2010 and got a job as a model maker for Form Factory. I started there as a finisher and would make high level finishes for cosmetic models. It didn't take long for me to start programming and operating CNC mills and I became a skilled machinist. In 2018 I got a job at Sigma Design. I went from a machinist to a programmer, then to a supervisor and now I am the model shop estimator. I enjoy the fast paced, ever changing challenges that Sigma Design presents. I am excited to be a part of the company's continuous growth and development.

Questions & Answers

How do you make people laugh?

I like to tell jokes and riff around with co-workers. Keeping things light and smiles on peoples faces is a priceless benefit for the work environment. I like to get to know my peers so I can adapt my humor to their individual personalities.

If you were a tool or piece of equipment, what would you be and why?

I would be a flathead screwdriver. This is a very versatile tool. It can be used as a chisel, a prybar, a poker, a digger, a light hammer and if you hold it at an angle you it can act as a Phillips head. Its not too fancy or special but it a comfortable and convenient and can get the job done.

What's your favorite productivity hack or time-saving trick?

I anticipate the next task. By the time I have finished what I am doing I am lined up and prepared to start the next. Looking at problems with a big picture perspective allows me to move through projects with fluidity.
