Ian Stark

Mechanical Engineer

I've been a Mechanical Engineer in the product development space for 9 years. In my role I get the opportunity to turn an idea or a need into a physical reality, integrating my experience with high- and low-volume product design, testing, and prototype manufacturing into each deliverable.

My time at Sigma Design has included roles within various teams and locations. Each one has been a tremendous learning opportunity and that's something I really like about working for Sigma. There's a great breadth and depth of talent here, creating innovative solutions for all kinds of customer needs every day..

Questions & Answers

How do you make people laugh?

Sometimes the work environment feels too serious. This is when I deploy my absurdist, sometimes facetious sense of humor to defuse the seriousness and lighten the mood. I think most of us at Sigma like to joke around rather than playing it stern-faced all the time.

If you were a tool or piece of equipment, what would you be and why?

I'd be a 3D printer: versatile to enable complex designs, as well as test fixtures, manufacturing jigs, button holders, manifolds, and more. And every year 3D printers become more capable: someone will find a new application for printing, and the technology will continue to improve.

What's your favorite productivity hack or time-saving trick?

I habitually minimize clutter - on my desk, in my computer folders, by keeping few browser tabs open - which makes it easy for me to find information and documents when I need them.
