New wireless aviation headset wins prestigious international design competition
SIGMADESIGN, a product design and engineering firm headquartered in Vancouver, WA, today announces that its work on the Lightspeed TangoTM Aviation Headset was awarded with the Red Dot Award for Product Design, an internationally recognized acknowledgment of superior design. Collaboration between Lightspeed Engineers and SIGMADESIGN Product Designers resulted in the design of the first wireless aviation headset, which was selected by the Red Dot jury from among a pool of 5,200 products and innovations from 57 nations.
The Lightspeed TangoTM Aviation Headset is the first premium product to combine wireless innovation with unmatched comfort and exceptional noise cancellation. The system integrates seamlessly into an airplane’s existing audio system with the full-featured Headset and wireless Panel Interface. Proprietary wireless technology provides more robust connection than Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and supports up to six headsets per aircraft. Additionally, Bluetooth connectivity along with a proprietary recording app allow access to smartphone and iPad music, features and data.
“We designed both the Headset and Panel Interface to be models of user-interface simplicity,” said Mark Schoening, Director of Industrial Design at SIGMADESIGN. “Primary features are designed with the user in mind. The ergonomic design includes large, simple controls, comfortable ear-cups and a unique ambidextrous microphone design, combined with superior signal reliability and audio quality to ensure the pilot is confident and comfortable.”
With 41 experts from all around the world, the Red Dot jury assesses each entry strictly and fairly, live and on site, according to criteria such as degree of innovation, formal quality, and functionality. “With their performances, the Red Dot winners not only demonstrated an extraordinary design quality, but they also showed that design is an integral part of innovative product solutions,” said Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and president of the Red Dot Award.
The culmination of the 2016 Red Dot Award is an awards ceremony held at the Museum Essen in Germany on July 4, 2016. Products will be presented in the special exhibition “Design on Stage” for four weeks, and then will become part of the permanent museum exhibition. Every year, this world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design is viewed by 150,000 visitors enjoying exposure to current trends and top achievements.
